The underground city of Martilna was tearing itself apart, every common warrior and low favored priestess had joined together to tear down the hierarchy and rebuild it anew. The once majestic city was almost completely in ruins, magical fires melted stone towers, and complex tunnel networks carved from massive stalagmites that jutted from the earth like natural spears. The fires threw off orange and yellow light, but in the back of the cavern, the last House stood, fortified and ready for the on coming assault, on the largest of the stalagmite belonging to the first house was the symbol of the Darlonis Clan, carved from the rock, it glowed an eerie shade of purple; this was due to a fungus that was harvested by the Dark Elves, it only grew in the Darkest parts of the underground. Magic had refined it and made it eternal; it would only die if the last member of the house of Darlonis was dead. Silent assassins moved ever closer to the palace, with its closed gates and hidden guards, the house seemed well protected....
::Sade stood at the window, squinting as the fires burned ever closer to the front gates of the Darlonis house.::
"Pitiful commoners;" ::Sade turned back away from the window and walked into his study:: "do they not realize that they don't stand a chance? Ramus?"
Ramus was Sade's adviser, Like most Dark Elves he was dark skinned, almost a dark shade of purple, his hair was a light gray, but his eyes were a tainted red, and always did Ramus have a maniacal smile upon his face. Ramus was much older than Sade and held loyalties only to the Prince himself, he would have defied the Matron Mother had Sade wished it. He wore a velvet red cape, a dark blood red tunic, and chain-mail underneath, at his side he held aloft a short sword, and upon his fingers he wore many rings. Ramus was a skilled swordsman, and an adequate wizard.
"I am here my Lord." ::Ramus stepped from the shadows, he was never far from the young prince's side::

:: Ramus stood quietly, watching the young Prince move about the study; he took notice of the many things that seemed out of place: a shoulder bag, hung on a peg near the large arch-way into the small study, the Prince's dueling swords were placed across his desk, a feint smell of alcohol was in the air; so the swords had recently been cleaned. The Prince was an admirer of old books, he often collected them, even old magic books that Ramus himself was willing to toss away,; for this reason it was odd to see his desk almost swept of any Reading material, and there were missing books from the shelves that lined the room.::
"My Lord, did you summon me?" ::Ramus had been standing a few minutes in silence waiting for Sade's next command.::
::Sade's scowl deepened, he looked up and into Ramus' eyes, his piercing blue orbs held a deadly chill.::
"I'm leaving this place; I've been planning it for some time... I grow weary of the riots and the rivalry between my siblings. Just a few days ago, Salina tried to have me killed... again. But tonight when the palace is under attack i will slip pass undiscovered and out into the darkness to find my our realm to call my own..."
::Ramus was all too familiar with his master's desire to leave, he had never stopped the Prince, only ever brought him back if that was what he so wished. But this time seemed different somehow...::
"What would you have me do my Lord?"

Out side the Fires of Martilna's rioting population were now at the gates of the Darlonis Palace, but oddly enough there were not yet sounds of a battle raging in the courtyard.
::Down the hall came foot steps, guards come to protect the Prince is what Ramus assumed, Then an odd sound reached the Elf's ears, Sade noticed it too for the instant the guards reached his open door, they drew weapons.::
"Prince Sade; we ask that you come with us to the throne room. And without a fight, we would rather not have to kill you."
The first soldier wore a dirty orange tunic, with a dark blue bandanna around his arm, the symbol of the Sarashious house was embroidered on the bandanna. He held in his hand a strange battle Axe, the handle seemed to be made of a dense rock, and the blade was curved with hooks on the end; the Soldier held it threateningly. the second Guard was from Sade's own house, dark Blue tunic a black cape and leather armor, the only difference was the white bandanna with the same Sarashious emblem. This soldier held a standard short sword and a buckler, he seemed to be hesitant to approach the two.
::The soldier with the Axe advanced toward Sade. Ramus looked to his Master for permission, Sade gave a curt nod and suddenly the room was filled with motion. Sade made a diving roll behind his desk, the Axe wielding warrior raised his weapon to strike at the Prince. Ramus balled his hand into a fist and pointed it at the second soldier in the doorway, the young Drow panicked and tried to dive away but a blast of air knocked him into the corridor wall, a burst of wind from one of Ramus' many magical rings. When the wind let up the young drow slumped to the ground against the wall, papers and parchment floated in the air ripped from books and tables around the room by the wind vortex from Ramus' Ring. Sade now stood behind his desk, the last warrior's Axe buried deep in the oak desk, Sade blades on the edge of the split desk closest to the warrior. Ramus turned his attention to the last threat to his master, he now held his sword tightly in his hand, ready to run the intruder threw.Sade glanced at Ramus, a look the adviser knew well.::
"Why do you seek to bring down the Darlonis House?"
::Sade's voice was calm, and matter-of-factly. He studied the man before him, the man was a veteran warrior, small white scares covered his face and arms. The man had a slightly larger build than Sade, yet he did not seem as confident.::
"Your families rein of torture has gone on long enough, it is time for you to step down and let a new house rise from the ashes."
::The warrior yanked his Axe free of the desk with a mighty heave, he was strong; but slow. Sade backpedaled, putting his back against the wall, the Axeman advanced around the desk, but as he reached the side Sade took two quick steps and leaped over the desk, landing on his feet on the other side, the warrior swung his Axe, but Sade was rolling away on the ground, the blade swung harmlessly overhead. Sade stopped his forward roll next to Ramus, who clenched his fist and mumbled under his breath. The room was instantly filled with a flash of light, when it died down the warrior was against the wall and the smell of burning flesh filled the room. The lightning bolt from Ramus' second ring sent the warrior across the room to smash into a bookcase, he lay still quite dead.::

::From down the hall came shouts; the lightning had attracted unwanted attention. Ramus walked over to the smoldering body and kicked the man for good measure.::
"Well my Prince, Where should we go now? Take back your household from these murderous warriors?" ::Ramus knew before he had asked what the young Prince would say... he quite enjoyed the idea.::
::Sade looked around as if trying to decide what else he could stuff in his pack that lay on the ground next to the door, it was already filled to the brim with books and scrolls and other trinkets that he believed would be useful on a journey. He turned to Ramus and looked at his only trusted companion.::
"This time Ramus, it is for real and your coming with me! So we must make it to your study and hope some of your magic instruments have not been pillaged."
:: This answer surprised the battle mage, but he didn't say anything, only nodding to his masters orders.::
"As you wish my Lord."
::Ramus turned for the door, more foot steps came from down the hall, As Ramus stepped from the study into the hall he began to chant softly under his breathe. Three armed guards ran toward him, not knowing if they were friend or foe Ramus finished his spell casting and took three stepped toward the group and dropped down on one knee. He traced a line in the dirt, it glowed faintly then disappeared, and in its place a stone wall began to materialize. No one would follow from that direction::

Fires blazed in every corner of the palace, yet the two Drow walked calmly toward the eastern end of the southern spire. They met little resistance, this part of the palace had apparently already been cleared out. Loyal Darlonis guards littered the ground, overcome by the sear numbers of the enemy force they hadn't stood a chance. But then again the Drow live to fight, and fight to live, each as desperate and skilled as his opponent. There was never fear in a drow's heart when going toe-to-toe with another drow warrior; only respect.
::Sade took point, he so enjoyed quick and clean kills, as a Drow stealth was his specialty and killing the name of his trade. Sade slipped past two guards, who were not paying much attention; too busy looting the dead for valuable weapons. As he continued down the corridor. He heard the sound of hissing snakes ahead; had anyone seen his face it would have been more pale then those of his surface cousins. He abruptly stopped and pulled his cowl tighter around him, and started to slowly backtrack, hoping to find Ramus before he attracted any attention. Back down the hall a few dozen feet, Sade began to run but it was too late, ahead of him he heard the pillaging soldiers.::
"What do you think all this loot is worth Drazik?"
"I'm not sure bu- Who are you?"
"Oh I'm just the Prince's personal body gaurd..."
::Sade knew that Ramus was smiling, and it made him pick up his pace. but it was already too late. The hall ahead of him exploded in flames, the two looters wailing in agony as they rolled on the ground. A feeble attempt, Sade thought: The flames are magical they wont go out until its Creator wills them to. Sade shook his head and stepped around the corner. At the sight of his master's frown Ramus willed the flames to dissipate.::
"Sorry Master, I couldn't help myself,"
::He smiled weakly and looked to Sade once more, the prince hadn't even bothered to slow his pace, just kept walking.::
"No time to punish you Ramus, our "company" likely heard your enterianment... Damn priestesses"
::Sade's scowl darkened and he picked up his pace a little more. taking a round about route to Ramus' study.::
"Priestess?!"

::Ramus stood, horror stricken for just a moment; fully expecting the female drow to step around the corner and strike at him with her wicked snake headed whip that he knew she would wield. He shivered as he dared to move; picking up the pace to follow in his masters footsteps.::
::The explosion from the Fireball thrown by Ramus shook the very ground benieth the hunting parties Feet. The Priestess turned around, her features unreadable and cold.::
Priestess: "Find the wizard that wields such emense power and bring them before me; if you fail i will be sure that you are counted among the dead." ::Her eyes burned with envy and hatered. The five soldiers that had been following her slipped quietly into the shadows and disappeared from sight.::
Screams could be heard farther down the halls, just beyond the walls that held Ramus' study. It took Sade and Ramus the better part of 20 minutes of travel and constant waiting to get there.
"They must realize that not all the Royalty have been slaughtered. They are looking for you my Lord,"
::Sade listened with only halfhearted emotion, he was more focused on how to get the last dozen feet to Ramus' Study; a group of half a dozen Drow warriors sat silently eating rations from a near-by storage room. Thay sat on the floor in a wide corridor, no fires burned there but several corpses could be seen, the heat leaving thier bodies. In the infrared spectrum of his vision he could see the other drow easily. Sade pulled his cloak tight around him; the cloak was woven with a spell to mask heat signatures, only his brothers and sister had them with the exception of Ramus. In order to secure a cloak from Ramus, Sade had killed a noble of a rival house and taken it while the life blood was still running warm out of his enemy.::
"We cannot stand here forever Ramus, don't you have something in your bag of tricks that could get us through that room?" ::Sade Asked in the silent hand code::

Sade often wondered if Ramus silently laughed at him behind his back. And with the evil smirk on his face it was not hard to imagine the wizard doing so.
"Well do you want to make a show of it?" ::Ramus asked in the hand code:: " I could simply burn the infestation out..."
But a single look from Sade told Ramus to get them to the other side of the chamber silently. He quickly reached into his many deep pockets, pulling out various components, one of which Sade realized was hemm weed, a potent poison if crushed and mixed with water.
::Sade covered his mouth and nose with his cloak, Ramus shook his head at the Prince and laughed silently, Then he slowly stood, Hemm weed in one hand and chalk in the other he began a low, almost in audiable chant, waving the Hemm weed and drew a rough door in the cave wall infront of him. When he finished he pushed slightly on the wall within the chalk outline, it slid inward on magicly greased hinges. Once they steped through they were inside Ramus' study; they silently closed the magical portal, but dispite the silence they emplored the door closed shut with a loud *thud*::
"Why didnt you do that earlier!" ::Sade turned on Ramus, a menecing look in his eyes.::
"You know how I so enjoy the thrill of the hunt Master. I couldn't help myself."
::He quickly shrugged and went to his desk, collecting spell components and scrolls as he went. As he reached his desk he opened every drawer and schuffeled papers until he found what he was looking for: a thin wand barly more than seven or eight inches long; it was made of a type of material Sade could not identify, with a grip made of Bronze::

:: Ramus crossed the room the doorway where Sade was keeping watch, his keen ears telling him that the soldiers that had been in the round chamber just a a dozen feet away, had moved around the corner Sade and himself had been, most likely to investigate the thud from the closing stone door.::
"For you my Master, I think you will find it quite useful."
::Ramus handed the slender wand over to Sade. He knew that the Prince had received a moderate amount of training in the ways of magic. Sade would have been a deadly wizard if given the proper training by a master sorcerer; but alas hid Master's path was one of the Sword. Ramus briskly turned around and walked to a bookshelf across the room.::
"I need only Grab a few more things."
"As long as we are not here too much Longer, I'd Like to get out of here without having half the city on our trail. Who know how long it will take the to track down the rest of my Family."
::Sade said the world like it was venom, Ramus Started to pick through the books on the shelf; he gazed around at his study and all the things he knew he wouldn't be able to take with him. He had payed a good about of gems for most of the scrolls and book in the room. But for now he grabbed truly unique items: a few jars of acids or poisons. Scrolls of power, both magical and physical compounds. the rest he left on the floor and tables in the room.::
"Master I am Ready when you are...?"
::Sade crouched low in the doorway, crossbow darts hung to his cloak and were lodged in the mushroom stalk door frame. His movements were sluggish and slow. But he fought well. Three warriors stepped from the shadows, two wearing gray Cloaks, the third wearing Darlonis Armor.::
"You cowardly Traitor!"
::The words left Sade's mouth as it crossed Ramus' mind and he wondered not for the first time if Sade was an extension of himself. Sade Lunged forward, a weak thrust to the midsection of the Darlonis warrior, but his enemy's blade; a cutlass by the look of it, swooped down and bashed the Blade violently wide.::

::Sade's movements were slow, and the excitement of battle was pumping the sleeping poison from the darts faster through his veins. Sade was working purely defensive, parrying and whipping his blades across in from of him in an effort to keep the advancing warriors at bay. Ramus behind his Master had yet to be seen, and as Sade backed slowly into the room he balled his hand into a fist and one of his many rings on his right hand began to glow a light shade of blue in the dim light. He waited until all three murderous drow stepped through the doorway and right passes him, Sade had backed himself up to the wall; using its solidity to hold him up. The Darlonis Traitor stepped forward.::
"Surrender Second Boy," ::Referring to his status in the family hierarchy:: " you can no longer run, and you are but a single sluggish warrior against three finely tuned and skilled killers. You don't Stand a cha- "
::The Drow's words were rendered silent a moment later when flash and thunderous boom filled the room, Sade saw it for only a moment a bolt of lightning sprang hungrily from Ramus' ring to the first warrior in the back who now stood clutching at his no longer beating heart, the jolting strike then jumped to the second warrior who was wearing the invader's colorless gray cloak. To this drow, the magical assault was too much and he was thrown across the room to land on top of the oak stalk desk, with a resounding crack both drow and desk crumpled to the floor in a heap. By the time the lightning arched to the third enemy soldier, it wasn't strong enough to kill him, it sent shudders and waves of pain through his body, mouth shut tight and teeth clamped securely on his tongue the drow fell to the floor. Sade; never one to have been merciful; grabbed the Drow by the hair and put his blade to work on the man's neck and face. Open gashes and deep cuts ensure that the male wouldn't live unless a healer found him soon, his life blood seeping onto the cold stone floor.::

::Ramus walked over to Sade and looked down at the prince's gruesome work. He was an effective killer. Sade stood to his full height and turned away.::
"Have you figured out how we are going to get out of here Ramus? Or should i start wandering the halls for a more useful wizard?"
::Sade stood with his cloak in hand, wiping the blood off his katanas. When he replaced his swords back in their sheaths he heard Ramus sigh. He turned and saw that the wizard had pulled back a curtain from a hole in the wall, beyond it was a free fall to the courtyard below. Many rioting Drow still lingered there.::
"You expect us to just float down there and not be followed by any of the hundreds of invaders that are lurking down there? Either you are out of your mind or you want to get us killed."
::Ramus turned away from th hole in the wall back toward Sade and looked him straight in the eye.::
"Well my Master if you have any better ideas I would be glad to hear it. I used the last of my dimensional doors trying to get to this room. If we are quiet enough we can still make it out of the complex alive and without pursuers."
::And with that Ramus pulled two feathers from one of his deep pockets in his wizards robe, with each he chanted as he crushed the feathers into a fine dust and sprinkled it over both himself and Sade. Sade felt himself grow suddenly lighter, as he approached the hole in the stalagmite tower he looked down and couldn't help but wonder if he were jumping to his death. Ramus; hearing footsteps down the hall roughly pushed the Prince out the window and quickly followed, using his wand to push the curtain back into place once he was on the other side of it. Both Ramus and Sade floated gently down the side of the First House's eastern most building, drawing a few curious eyes in the process. Using the side of the stalagmite as a push off Ramus angled himself down and away from the complex, when Sade saw him pass by he Quickly followed with the same action and idea. The angle of their decent was steep; but put distance between them and the majority of the rioters. They landed on the crude roof of a hut in the market district of Martilna, behind them they could hear shouting; the beginnings of an organized search party. Sade and Ramus Dropped to their bellies, and pulled their cloaks tight around them, Sade could feel his weight returning, and could hear the sound of the fragile roof giving way he attempted to roll, away from Ramus and the center of the roof; but it was too late. Sade and Ramus fell through the roof, parts of it coming down on them, and as Sade lay there with dust thick in the air all he knew went black.::

::Sade felt the grit and dust that had settled on his face and knew he was laying on his back below the caved in roof, his eyes were shut and he could hear nothing except the distant shout of soldier's; and With a start Sade realized he wasn't breathing, he took a long and deep breath and began to cough. The dust in the air was too thick to allow him anything more than shallow and slow breaths. He tried to move but felt pinned. in front of his yes he could see sections of the roof that had fallen over him. his right arm up to his elbow were trapped below a large section, as he struggled to free himself he felt a searing pain in he hand and wrist.::
"Ramus?... Ramus?? Ramus! You worthless wizard answer me!"
::Sade swallowed after every few words trying futilely to clear his throat of the dust hanging in the air. The air felt as thick as lead and weighted heavily on his already constricted lungs. Sade tried to ignore the unpleasant thought of being buried alive, but panic began to build inside his churning stomach. He began to pull on his right arm with abandon, recklessly breaking bones in the process, with each sharp pain his panic doubled, he began to kick and shove at anything he could. Sade kicked out with his left foot and connected with something soft. The pains subsiding, put to rest by his curiosity, he kicked the soft patch of ground again, it groaned; so again he kicked it and it emitted another soft and muffled groan. Sade kicked at it with all his remaining strength, and what seemed like a hundred miles away he head a dull thud as Ramus sprang forward and his head hit the not crumbled roof that was no doubt just as tightly packed around him. Sade smiled in relief as he heard the wizard swear and curse the goddess Tresona, the goddess of misfortune.::
"Ramus? can you hear me?" ::In reply Ramus kicked him.::
"Well then. DO SOMETHING YOU IDIOT!"
::Several minutes passed by and Sade feared that the wizard could not use magic to get them out. Panicking he began to meditate telling himself that he would find a way out even if he had to do it alone.::
"Master, if you value your life; take a deep breathe and hold it."
::Puzzled he began to question the wizard; suddenly he felt liquid seeping into his pant leg and cloak. he looked down but could see nothing. Then the rock roof about him dripped onto his forehead, and all around him he saw the stone melting into a gray colored water. He quickly took a breath and the stone that had been trapping him to the ground ceased to exist in a solid state. The jumped up and out of the rock puddle. He stood and began wiping the rock-water from his cloths and pack he stared at Ramus with contempt.::
"Did you really think that was the best idea? What if you had misjudged how far down I was buried? I could have Drown! You imbecile."
"I am sorry Master, do you not trust my expertise?"
"Ramus, you know as much as I do that Trust is not in our nature. Now if you would be so kind as to lead our way out of here it would be much appreciated."
::Sade had taken off his pack and set it on the ground before him, from hit he took a white strip on linen and began to wrap his broken and mangled wrist. He would have to set it later when he was far enough away from the city; though it would cause problems if the rioting soldiers caught up to them. It was a risk he had to take. He could feel that at least two fingers were broken and his wrist was fractured and dislocated. When he had finished he looked around to see the place of his miserable birth once more, and as he and Ramus set forth into the dark underground he bid farewell and good riddance to the dark and murderous place he had called home.::

::Sade and Ramus set out for the nearest enterance to the tunnel network. It will be many days befor they were far enough away from the city to let thier gaurd down. Ramus was constantly back tracking and doubling back on their own foot print to confuse and frustrate anyone who might be persueing them. Sade follewed the wizard closly and listened to his every work, he muttered under his breath the few ways he knew how to get to the surface. Sade had decided to try and travel topside for a while; maybe plunder a couple of villages along the way. on the surface they would need new cloths and weapond and possibly even new spells to memorize. They knew not what the hellish light would do to them or their equipment. In the dark they were as silent as death itself and just as unforgiving. Two days out from Martilna they came upon drow sentries keeping watch over a small camp of hunters, Sade cloaked himself from their heat vision and snuck silently up behind the lone gaurd, covered his mouth to muffle the scream and slipped a dagger into his ribcage and into the drow heart. Ramus dropped a ball of fire into the midst of the sleeping warriors and watched in glee as they screamed and howled as the burned within the tents. after the last of them died, shriveled up and burned black they were stripped of anything usefull. A few swords, waterskins and travel rations.::
"Ramus... what is wrong with this picture?" ::Ramus raised an eye at his young master, curious as to what the prince had ment.::
"What do you mean sire? Did I miss something?"
::Sade nodded quickly and search the area as Ramus finished plucking the valuable jewels from the Drow.::
"Where is their wizard?!"
::Ramus's eyes grew large and he turned in a panic to scan the area as his master was doing the same. He fumbled for a few ingreadiants within the many folds of his robes. A eye, blood-wine and dust made of a mushroom common in the darkest reaches of the underground. He began to mumble as he crushed the eye in his hands and grabbed a handfull of dust the dipped it in the blood-wine. He then spread it over his face. His vision suddenly became much more clear, seeing the shadows within the walls, as he turned full circle he saw the wavering shimmer of an extra dementional pocket, the other wizards portable study.::
"Master? I suggest we move quickly; we have to move, like now."
::Ramus gathered up what he could within his arms and hurried his young master along, leading them back out into the dark of the tunnels where monsters worse than what they left behind lay waiting in every nook and cranny of the underdark.::

:: Soon after the prince and his master left, the wizard that had been watching safely within the dimensional pocket stepped out into the cavern where more than a dozen drow lay motionless. He covered his nose avoiding the stench of burning flesh and walked briskly in the opposite direction as the wanted rouges. He slipped into the tunnels and headed north-east back toward the city, he smirked evily. His scouting parties job was not to capture the rouge second boy, but to locate him and report back to the many priestess' waiting to march out in force to corner him. His smile was wider still when he realized the reward that he would soon recieve. A priestess of the first house as a slave, how delicious an irony.::

Sade and Ramus moved quickly for the next few days, allowing little time to rest and refresh themselves. Along the way they both could tell that the darkness that surrounded them was somehow lightening, becoming less black and more gray. The ground here was warmer, not so cool as the walls and tunnels had been deeper in the under dark. Although they encountered no more drow scouting parties they were both on edge. The wizard would have made it back to the priestess' by now and they knew that pursuit was close; even if they couldn't see or hear it.
::Sade stopped at yet another intersection in the winding corridor that Ramus believed would take them to the surface. The gradation seemed right, but it has been many days and the tunnels show no sign of opening up onto the wide open plains they intended to arrive at. Sade looked left and right, then back at his counter-part for advise; Ramus stood silently by the wall, his cloak closed in from his arms two of his many pockets, starring back at his master.::
"Sire, do you truly wish to leave the comfort of these tunnels for the obscure chance that the light above wont melt our skin from our bones as the tales of old suggest? We are near that place even now, closer every day in fact. we should arrive there within the day."
::Sade looked at his only loyal servant and nodded, one quick jerky motion that told Ramus it wasn't up for discussion. Sade didn't care about the lore of old or the laws forbidding his race to go to the surface, he wanted to get away from everything familiar, he wanted to carve his name into the history of the world through trails of blood and the piles of dead he would leave behind.::
"Ramus, I am destined to rule a marvelous kingdom and I will have it even if it means killing every person we come into contact with. Now stop stalling they are close I can feel the, near."
::With a sigh of contempt and bitterness towards his master Ramus walks forward, ponders a moment with his fingers on his chin and goes left, a slight wisp of air coming from that direction. They walk on in utter silence, not even their foot steps making a sound. As they round a bend in the tunnel they come upon a cavern, they stop and listen a moment; water from a roaring river can be heard in the distance. The cavern is massive and is more like an air pocket underground than a cavern, a slight and almost unnoticeable ledge winds around the cavern going up several hundred feet. As they walk towards the ledge they see it is roughly wide enough to walk two abreast, the air is thick with mist and the walkway is slick.::
"I wouldn't suppose you have a better way of getting us up this... inconvenience?" ::Sade says as he raises his eyebrows at the wizard.::
"Sorry master I used the last of my ingredients for such a spell while fleeing the city."
:: Sade grumbles as he slowly slid one foot out onto the ledge, testing its strength, when he was satisfied it could hold his weight he began walking forward and up, Ramus following 10 steps behind."
